Hi folks!
Since the 4th of July weekend trip was cancelled, we were looking for a different trip in July to fill the gap, and decided to do a “First-timers” trip to Champoeg State Park. So, if you’ve never camped by bike before, and would like to, come join us on a trip to Champoeg near Newburg! We’ll be taking this trip from the end of the MAX line in Hillsboro, so the route we have planned has no major hills, and follows mostly pleasant farmland, orchards and vineyards. If there is interest, we may stop along the way for a wine tasting.
If you’re an experienced bike camper, we’d still like to have you along to help welcome people who’ve never been out with us. Come enjoy a beautiful ride and a night talking by the fire. Trip details will be posted later this week, but we’ll likely be meeting in Hillsboro at 10am and riding at 10:30.
Note that Trimet’s official policy is no trailers, and no bikes which block the aisles or doors (e.g. tandems, some Xtracycles). Not all MAX operators adhere strictly to policy, so you might get lucky – or you might get booted out by a fare inspector or Trimet supervisor.

Is this the route? http://goo.gl/maps/zxnp
That’s pretty close. Yes, except for the route out of Hilsboro to SW Fern Hill Rd and the route through Newberg. The route will be up in a couple of days.
are you planning on staying in the yurts, tent sites or the hiker/biker area?
gl, we typically only stay in yurts or cabins during the winter months, and when we do, we specifically note it in the event description. All other Cycle Wild trips are tent camping.
We usually stay in the hiker/biker area at Champoeg because it’s underutilized and we don’t need to reserve it, otherwise we’d have to ask for RSVPs to determine how many regular tent sites to reserve. Matt is leading this one, however, so he’ll have the full details soon.
thanks, shawn!
Details are going out TOMORROW – Wednesday the 11th. Sorry for the late notice, been a crazy week with being the Ride Coordinator for Tour de Clack and all.
Count this 1st timer in, I am looking forward to my very 1st bike camping trip.
