DODGE PARK KIDICAL MASS CAMPING
July 28, 2012, 10:00 am
Meet at Woodstock Park
Have you ever thought it would be fun to take your family camping by bike? We at Kidical Mass HQ have been thinking that very thought. We enlisted the help of the bicycle camping denizens at Cycle Wild to put together a suitable family oriented trip.
Every effort has been made to find a family friendly route to a suitable destination, but the reality of connecting Portland to a campground involves at least some stretch on less-than-ideal roads. This won’t really be a normal Kidical Mass ride in that young kids are NOT encouraged to ride their own bikes. The route is about 22 miles (one way), involves busy/ narrow roads, and has 2 significant climbs on the return trip (i.e. descents on the way there). We will travel as a group, obey the rules of the road, and take frequent breaks.
We don’t charge for the ride itself but there is a campground fee. Cost will be determined depending how many families show up. Best guess is that it’ll be about $15 per family to cover sites and firewood.
You’re on your own for food. Expect to eat Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast in camp. There will be plenty of breaks along the way for lunch and snacks.
Still want to come? Great! Send me an email (54canoe at the mail with a “G” daut com) letting me know how many adults, kids and bikes you’ll be and I’ll add your name to “the list”. Campground space is limited and we want to keep the group a reasonable size for riding on rural roads. Also, if you tell me you’re coming and it turns out that you won’t be, please let me know asap.
On July 28 we’ll meet at Woodstock Park playground (SE Harold & 48th) at 10am. I imagine it’ll take us 4-5 hours to ride to Dodge Park (at the confluence of the Sandy and Bull Run Rivers). We’ll return Sunday late afternoon.

Also, we still have KM t-shirts ($20), stickers($1) and spoke cards($1) for sale. Send me an email at the address above and I’ll get you in touch with the shirt girl. Or they’ll be available for purchase on the ride.
